February 20, 2019 - Sequences 2 & 4
Sequence 3 opens with Kumail walking, following the camera. I took this shot by using a 2 wheel self-balancing electric scooter (aka Hoverbaord). This gave me a very smooth, dolly-like effect.
But first, I explained to Rohail how he was supposed to fall:
Then I explained to Kumail how I wanted him to retaliate to Rohail placing his hand on his shoulder:
Then I shot a POV of Rohail as Kumail verbally assaults Rohail. This was done by me holding the camera, standing in Rohail's place and pointing the camera at Kumail. I told Kumail to hold the camera lens so it actually feels like Kumail is holding Rohail's face:
I even showed Kumail how to hit Rohail so that it makes a sound, involves speed a, but doesn't hurt Rohail at all. The key is to keep your hand dead, no stiffness at all and as soon as you reach your target you flicked your hand. The flick doesn't hurt much, but makes a very convincing sound:
After this, I showed Rohail how to react to the "punch" that he'd get from Kumail. I want a lightning fast reaction, and I wanted him to grunt or at least make a grunting face and slop towards the front a little as if his stomach is aching a lot:
Lastly, I copied and backed up everything:
February 22, 2019 - Sequences 1 & 3
For sequences 1 and 3, there were not as many moving shots so I didn't take a lot of behind the scenes. But, I did take a couple of behind the scenes footage.
For the scene that Brohi punches the punching bag, there is cut to the POV of punching bag. This shot is similar to Rohail's POV and was shot in a similar way:
The next scene is Kumail crying in the balcony, because he feels lonely:
Lighting
I didn't want a complex setup for lighting as I was alone for my production. So, I decided to use the available lighting that I had. In my room, I had which were 2 florescent lights and a table lamp in my room, and two chandeliers in the dining room and two LED lights in the lounge. I got very lucky as the chandeliers use LED bulbs, so does the lamp and the lights are LEDs themselves. For the fluorescent lights, they matched very closely to the CRI of all other lights. This gave me a very well balanced light throughout the shooting. The only problem was when I was shooting outside, I had no light so I decided to use my iPhone's flashlight. Although it had a different CRI, I was able to recover it in Post Production by making some very basic adjustments.

The Chandelier in Living Room:
The Fluoroscent lights in the Lounge (coonected in the straight line to make one big light):
The main lights in my room provided the Key Lights and the white walls bounced it around to make a soft diffused light, the lamp was distant away to give a soft light which filled in the shadows on the faces.
The Chandelier and the Lounge lights gave and bounced light enough to create a soft light for Brohi's scenes when he is playing.
Your hard work really paid off cause this a great piece of work which is able to send its message across very easily. Loved it
