Engagement
In order to properly engage my audience, I knew I had to plan a narrative and brand my movie in a way that the targetted audience, Teenagers, would find interesting and would want to watch the movie.
For this, I decided to promote my movie on social media as it is popular among teenagers and millennials.
What made it easy was that I already a large following on Snapchat, Instagram, etc. and it would have been easy for me to promote on these platforms rather than paying for something.
Instagram:
Ahead of the publication of my movie, I posted these teasers on my Instagram story to build excitement:
The response that followed was great with people asking me how soon could they watch the video, etc:
Distribution
I distributed the movie over YouTube, and also screened it separately for a focus group ahead of publishing it. The reason for the screening was to evaluate if any changes were needed, and indeed I did need to make a couple of changes:
- The title of the movie was changed from "Bullies Make Bullies" to "Reciprocate" as the movie doesn't depict bullying alone, but it also shows the reciprocation of good behavior.
- I had a scene where Brohi throws punches at a punching bag just before Kumail is shown crying in the balcony, I removed that because it didn't play any significant part in the narrative.
Screening (minor task):
As instructed in my syllabus for my Minor Task, I had to screen the movie at a short film festival or alike, I chose a group of my friends and showed them the first completed product. I did to cover my syllabus as well as get any improvement suggestions.
